Raymore’s history

Collection

Long before the railway arrived, the land around Raymore was home to the Touchwood peoples, who lived in four bands under the leadership of Kawacatoose (Poorman or Lean Man), Kaneonuskatew, Muscowequan and Kisecawchuck. Today Raymore is the administrative headquarters of the Kawacatoose Cree First Nation band government. A store is documented on the Poorman 88 Indian reserve as early as 1874.
